Apply online for a UK passport
Now applying for a UK passport is easier than ever. Sending an online form saves time and makes the whole process more straightforward. Also, if you need to renew, replace or update your passport details, you can simply submit an online form on GOV.UK website and wait for your application to succeed.
How long does it take
Usually, it takes up to 6 weeks to get your first UK adult passport, but sometimes it may be a longer period of time.
However, all other types of applications should take no more than 3 weeks. Normally, time of considering the application varies due to several factors, either more information is needed or application hasn’t been filed out correctly. That is why the Home Office does not recommend to make any travel arrangements, while using their services. There are different services for those, who need to get their passport urgently.
Get passport urgently: Premium Service
Premium (1 day) or Fast Track (1 week) services allow applicants to get their documents in extremely short period of time. While using Premium Service, you can usually collect your passport within 4 hours after appointment. Fast Track Service provides you with an opportunity to receive a passport by post in a week time. Applying by post
Sending application by post is a verified method of communication with the Home Office. You can collect a UK passport application forms from a local Post Office and apply by post, or use the Post Office Check and Send service.
To get a new passport through the Post Office Service, you will need to send your completed application form, photos and other documents using the pre-printed envelope that comes with the form. HM Passport service will get in contact with you if they need any additional information. If you apply by post you can put your card details on the payment form and send it with all other documents.
