Securing the Future: Successful Naturalisation for Mother and Child
We are pleased to share another successful outcome achieved by Sterling Law – the naturalisation applications of a mother and her minor daughter have been granted, securing their future as British citizens.
This matter was handled by our Immigration Advisor, Tetiana Deren, assisted by Daria Kotkova, who supported the family throughout the process.
The background
Our clients, dual Romanian and Ukrainian nationals, had been living in the United Kingdom since 2018 and were granted status under the EU Settlement Scheme. Having built their lives here, they wished to take the final step in their immigration journey and apply for British citizenship.
While they met the core residence requirements, the case required careful preparation due to aspects of their earlier immigration history. As with many naturalisation applications, it was essential to ensure that every requirement was clearly evidenced and properly explained.
Our approach
We carefully reviewed the clients’ full immigration and travel history to ensure compliance with residence and absence requirements. We addressed the good character requirement and prepared detailed representations to present the strongest possible case.
Importantly, we also highlighted the best interests of the child, ensuring that the Home Office had a clear understanding of the family’s life in the UK and the child’s integration into British society.
Naturalisation applications are subject to increasing scrutiny, and even small issues can lead to delays or refusals if not handled correctly. Our role was to ensure the applications were complete, accurate and clearly presented from the outset.
The outcome
Both applications were approved. The mother and daughter are now British citizens, securing long-term stability and certainty for their future in the United Kingdom.
Why this matters
British citizenship is more than an immigration status – it provides security, freedom of movement, and full participation in life in the UK. However, the application process can be complex, particularly where there are historical immigration matters to consider.
With proper preparation and clear legal guidance, even cases involving complications can achieve successful outcomes.
If you are considering applying for British citizenship, or if you are concerned that aspects of your immigration history may affect your eligibility, we can help.
Sterling Law advises individuals and families at every stage of the naturalisation process – from eligibility assessments to full application preparation.
