We are pleased to report another successful outcome for one of our clients, who has now been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the United Kingdom under the 10-year long residence route.
Our client’s immigration journey spanned nearly a decade and involved time spent under various immigration categories, including as a family life applicant and, significantly, as the dependent of a diplomat. During their time in the UK under diplomatic arrangements, the client was exempt from immigration control—a status conferred under the Vienna Convention for diplomatic and consular staff and their dependents.
This exemption meant that, although physically present in the UK, the client was not subject to standard immigration rules during that period. As a result, careful legal consideration was required to determine how this exempt status could be applied toward a continuous lawful residence claim.
The case involved several complex factors, including:
- Periods spent under different immigration categories
- Time in the UK under diplomatic exemption from immigration control
- Establishing ten years of continuous and lawful residence
Through detailed legal analysis and a well-prepared application, we were able to demonstrate that the client’s residence in the UK—despite the exemption period—met the Home Office’s requirements for long residence under the Immigration Rules.
We are delighted to have achieved a successful outcome, enabling our client and their family to begin a new chapter with stability and settlement in the UK.
