Shiraz Peer is a Partner at Sterling Law and one of the UK’s most experienced immigration practitioners, with over 21 years of dedicated practice across the full spectrum of immigration, human rights, and public law. He holds IAA Level 3 accreditation in Advocacy & Representation and was among the first OISC-regulated practitioners to obtain Judicial Review authorisation in 2017.

His passion for immigration law is rooted in personal experience: as a young man, Shiraz was the subject of apartheid deportation by the South African authorities, refused entry and returned to the UK on five separate occasions. That formative experience has driven a lifelong commitment to equality, fairness, and the defence of those whose rights are at risk.

Having practised immigration law since 2005, Shiraz has built an exceptional record: a case success rate exceeding 90%, two reported decisions at Upper Tribunal and First-tier Tribunal level, and a loyal client base of over 9500 individuals built on two decades of results-driven representation.

His advocacy is recognised at the highest levels of the immigration jurisdiction. FOUR of his cases have been formally reported: VW v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2007] UK Asylum & Immigration Tribunal, and Omenma v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2014] UKUT 314 — a Upper Tribunal decision that continues to be cited in immigration proceedings. He is well known to the judiciary and holds deep respect within the Home Office and among counsel.

Beyond his caseload, Shiraz is a prominent voice on immigration law in the wider community. He has appeared regularly on Legal TV and Ben TV, providing free immigration advice to the public, and his firm has delivered community outreach events across the UK for many years. He has advised clients from over five continents, with particular depth of expertise serving Afro-Caribbean, Asian, and European communities.
